HOMA for Railway applications

HOMA contactors are used in depots and on tracks. The main uses in depots are short circuit monitoring, power supply (system switch on and off) and grounding and shorting. This is a security feature where during system shut down the system must be grounded and shorted to prevent personel injury. On tracks HOMA contactors monitor short circuits. If the overhead wiring is damaged and the potential increases to a dangerous level the system needs to be shorted. High potentials could be a risk for personel injury and decomposition of under earth systems i.e. gas lines.

HOMA Switchgear

For over 60 years

HOMA switches are being built into different applications for more than 60 years and have been supplied to more than 100 countries. Due to the worldwide experience of HOMA, many national and international norms can be fullfield and have conducted a vast number of type tests for our products. We equip our switches with coils that can be operated worldwide with 60V to 480V AC/DC. The worldwide distribution network ensures minimal downtimes in case of a break down. HOMA is known for short delivery times and due to its modular design, switches can be assembled and delivered within 24 hours.

HOMA Switchgear - switching

Switching

Air-break contactors and combinations of switches to deal with normal to complicated switching activities for all types of electrical loads.

HOMA Switchgear - isolation

Isolation

Sliding contacts, air-break contactors and air- or water-cooled high current switches for galvanic interruption of circuits without a control current for technical or safety reasons.

HOMA Switchgear - distributing

Distributing

Different types of commutators to select different sources or for an alternative supply of the electrical load circuit.

HOMA Switchgear - controlling

Controlling

Commutators and pole-reversal contactor including associated control systems, reversing contactors etc. for process-related reversion of the electrical current or rotational direction; braking contactors for switchoff for drives that simultaneously trigger dynamic braking systems.

HOMA switchgears - regulating

Regulating

Starting contactor / rotor-short circuit contactor, as well as starting coupling contactor / cascade coupling contactor for large machinery in association with subsynchronous static converter systems cascade; capacitor contactors for balancing or compensating inductive electrical loads. Starting, damping and discharge resistors.

HOMA Bar mounted Contactors

In HOMA Bar mounted Contactors current-carrying components are organized on the basis of a main frame construction. All required modules are arranged on top of a single frame (bar), for example: Magnet system, Terminal plate for power circuit, Switch locking system and Movable contacts. The two examples below (G500 / HAT-2W) illustrate the construction.

HOMA AC/DC Bar mounted Contactors

for Railway applications

HOMA develops and manufactures AC and DC bar mounted contactors for railway applications, foundries and steel furnaces, solar and wind turbines, motor starters, battery test devices, ripple control systems, rolling mills and cranes since more than 60 years. HOMA is a system supplier for renowned manufacturers. Beside manufacturing contactors as a component, HOMA is capable to develop, manufacture and install turnkey solutions for complex requirements including supply of control cabinets and power electronics.

HOMA DC Switches are used in the railway industry as Earthing and Shorting Switches, Disconnectors and Contactors. In cooperation with our sister company RITTER Starkstromtechnik, HOMA can supply Load Break Switches (up to 100kA) and hand controlled Disconnectors.

Railway Applications -Bar mounted Contacors

Earthing and Shorting switches

HOMA manufacturers Earthing and Shorting Switches that are known for their reliability and safety of operations – if required also under extreme climatic conditions. HOMA switches guarantee highest safety for personnel and connected systems. The number of switching cycles is well beyond 1.000.000. Earthing and Shorting Switches are used to ensure that prohibited touch voltage does not rise – touch voltages can rise in DC railway systems between return circuit and structure ground. Through temporary shorting high voltages between rails and ground can be removed.

Railway Applications -Bar mounted Contacors - Earthing switches

Earthing switches

HOMA Earthing Switches are known for their reliable electrical magnet system. This technology offers the advantage that the control of the switch can be performed from the control center and does not require manual interaction when grounding a separate section of the system. Earthing Switches are used for the safety of personnel while working on utilities, therefore a high reliability and safety of operations is of highest priority. HOMA Switches are protected against corrosion. Comparable Earthing Switches usually allows 1.000 – 5.000 switching cycles. HOMA Switches distinguish themselves with >1.000.000 switching cycles and very little service requirements.

Railway Applications -Bar mounted Contacors On Load Contactorshausen

On Load Contactors

HOMA On Load Contactors are used regularly in railway applications for power supply and emergency shutdown. In combination with Disconnectors and Earthing Switches, HOMA can off er a compact system for switch off of systems for maintenance conforming with norms. HOMA Contactors are a mark for quickness, longevity, reliability and number of switching cycles (>3.000.000).

Railway Applications -Bar mounted Contacors - Disconnectors

Disconnectors

HOMA manufactures motor driven Disconnectors (up to 3,6kV) in a compact design, which are distinguished by the high number of possible switching cycles (>1.000.000). Disconnectors show a visible separation between voltage-carrying and activated system sections. The visible separation provides the safety during maintenance work that the specific system section is no longer carrying any voltage. Disconnectors are used to disconnect the network according to standards i.e. to perform a busbar change without disruption or to disconnect utilities. HOMA Disconnectors are type tested for rated lightning impulse withstand voltage up to 40kV and across the separation of up to 46kV.
